Notes on executing a will
-
Download a free will template here.
-
A will must be signed at the end of the document, not necessarily the bottom of the page. This means that you must not leave a blank space between the last paragraph of the will and the signature.
-
Each page of the will must be signed by the testator.
-
The testator must sign the will (or confirm their signature) in the presence of two witnesses who are not mentioned in the will.
-
The witnesses must be 14 years of age or older, and competent to give evidence in a court of law.
-
The witnesses must sign the document in the testator’s and each other’s presence.
-
The witnesses need not read the whole document – they are only confirming that the document was signed by the testator.
